Dear Compatriots After some 40 plus years in the workforce, I decided towards the end of last year that I would like to have a break from the hectic hustle and bustle of executive life, and take up a new position as a “baby boomer” respectively to become a “grey nomad” and fulfil one of my long harboured wishes to tour Australia in a motorhome. This means we will be away for several weeks at times, if not a couple of months. Hence, I decided I would also need to resign my appointment of Honorary Consul for Queensland to allow me to travel freely. This I did with some trepidation and regret as over the past 14 years as your Consul here, I met many, many lovely and interesting people, encountered many new situations and challenges, and dealt with ever changing demands, bureaucracies, a considerable increase in tourism of Swiss citizens, etc. etc. I very much enjoyed my time in the consular world, even the sometimes tough and difficult ones.  It is my great pleasure to introduce my successor, Mr Daniel Gschwind (yes, another Basler !) who took over from me on 1st May 2008. Daniel is the CEO of the Tourism Industry Council of Queensland, and has extensive experience in Government, statutory bodies and organisations, executive level management and in particular, the tourism industry. I am certain that Daniel will be a worthy and efficient representative of Switzerland in the Sunshine State and will discharge his duties as the Honorary Consul in an exemplary manner.
