Rangitoto
Enjoy a walk to the top of Rangitoto in great Swiss company!
This coming Sunday 10 November
Meet at the Auckland Ferry Terminal at 9:00am for a 9:15am departure, or at Devonport Ferry terminal (free parking J ) at 9:10am for 9:25am departure. Sabine will be at Auckland and Nelly at Devonport, each with a Swiss flag!
A walk to the Summit is a MUST. Easy walk, good track, approx one hour up, less down, rewarded with the best view of Auckland. Detour to spooky lava caves an extra, about 40 minutes. Detour on the way down via McKenzie Bay takes you to a very attractive beach. Several other short walks offer you interesting vegetation and history, including many old baches. You can also have a swim near Rangitoto wharf – somewhat small area, should be warm enough being fairly enclosed.
We plan to take the 3:45pm ferry from Rangitoto. The trip to Auckland takes some 25 minutes, but don’t cut it too fine, they are not always exactly on time. You have the option of leaving Rangitoto earlier too – there are ferries leaving at 12:45pm and 2:15pm.
The ferry costs $29 for adults, $14.50 for children 5 to 15 inclusive, $26 for seniors over 65, and nothing for under five year olds who sit on your lap! You buy your own tickets, the group discount is too small to justify the hassle. They do offerfamily tickets.
What do we wear and take? Wear walking shoes, hat, take protection against sun and rain, all your food and drinks (there are no shops), a rubbish bag, a torch for the caves, togs and towel, and camera.
Where do we book? No need to book, just come and make yourself known to us!
What if the weather is doubtful? Check on the Swiss Club website or on Facebook after 7pm on Saturday night the 9th.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
