Wellington has a feast of cultural attractions and its crowning glory is Te Papa, the national museum of New Zealand. Situated on Wellington’s magnificent waterfront, this internationally acclaimed museum combines leading edge technology with traditional exhibits to tell the stories of New Zealand’s land and people.
Welcome to the Wellington Swiss Club
Many Swiss tradespeople came to Wellington in the middle of the 20th century. Some knew each other from Switzerland, some had met on the ship that brought them here. It was a six weeks journey to get there.
In 1957 they founded the Wellington Swiss Club. The Wainuiomata Club House was bought in 2000.
Since then, second and third generation descendants have joined the club. We also have many young families, often composed of a Swiss wife who arrived in New Zealand in the last 10 years, a Kiwi husband, and Swiss-Kiwi children born here.
Swiss students and au pair often join our events as well.
